	00.06 BEN You know how when you live by yourself and you're home for a while because of whatever reason and you haven't seen another human being in like a week so you've forgotten how human interaction works? Yeah, Ben's kind of like that only the difference is that he's only talked with one person regularly for his entire afterlife. CHARACTER INFO Spontaneously born on October 1, 1989 along with several other children, Ben Hargreeves is the sixth member of a superpowered group of children raised by Reginald Hargreeves. His codename was The Horror, so named for the monsters that live under his skin and that he can summon through a portal in his stomach. As a child, Ben was extremely reluctant to participate in the crime-fighting activities that the Umbrella Academy is known for. He has to be coaxed into using his powers by Luther, and when they appear in front of the media later, the rest of his siblings appear to be confident and proud while Ben is clearly upset (cw: gore). From the other scattered snippets of their childhood, it's pretty clear that while Luther believes in their father wholeheartedly and some of his siblings enjoy they attention they get from crime-fighting, Ben only goes through with it because he wants to please his father and not let anybody down. In 2006, Ben died on an Umbrella Academy mission. The details of this are unclear, although from the way nobody will talk about his death it's clear that it had a big impact on the rest of the Hargreeves family. Immediately after his funeral, Ben was resurrected by his brother Klaus and then spent the next 17 years in the sole company of his brother. Unlike other ghosts, Ben ages and appears relatively normal because that's how Klaus thinks Ben should be. This interaction between Klaus' powers and Ben's spirit makes it kind of hard to say how much of Ben's current personality is a direct result of his choice to stick around and make sure Klaus isn't dead and how much of it he would have developed if he were still alive, but there's definite hints of who Ben used to be buried under his newer, more abrasive personality. Ben was the moral center of the Hargreeves family when he was alive, and according to Vanya, also the only thing keeping their family together. Unfailingly kind and sweet most of the time, Ben is stuck in a weird in-between state of appearing to be thirty something years old while mentally having never progressed much past the age he was when he died: sixteen. Even in death, Ben still (somewhat naively) believes the best of his siblings. Even though he's developed a sarcastic edge, probably from only interacting with Klaus for seventeen years, Ben is still just a generally nice person at his core. INVENTORY ☂ Pajamas: ??? So much of Ben's life has been public knowledge and there's a literal tell-all book about his life written by Vanya. All I ask is that you don't directly fourthwall him! He doesn't need an existential crisis on top of the rest of his life. ☂ SUPERNATURAL INFORMATION: Ben's a ghost, but more importantly Ben has as entire pocket dimension full of monsters under his skin. Have fun noticing that if your character can detect that stuff! Additionally, Ben can possess characters. While he can do it with unwilling hosts, it's much more difficult for him and he's very new at the entire concept of possession. ☂ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Does Ben crave it? Yes. Is it possible? Uhhhhhhhh. If he's currently possessing someone! Otherwise it's just physically not possible. ☂ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: You can try? You can try, but uh. See previous answer about it not being physically possible. Because it absolutely isn't. ☂ RELATIONSHIPS: Truly, let's just stick a pin in that. Ben still hasn't sorted out how he feels about relationships much beyond the fact that he likes Jill and he still has about eight things about his general life to sort out before he can think about that.
CONTENT WARNINGS The Umbrella Academy deals with a lot of things, but chief among them is child abuse. The other two big ones that will come up are the apocalypse and casual mentions of child soldier. There might also be references to 1960s racism, frank discussion of cults, and probably mentions of nuclear holocaust. Ben also comes with additional warnings for body horror, general ghost shit, and also gore relating to the manner in which he died. With that being said, please let me know by commenting below if you'd like to opt out of discussion/mention of those topics. Ben's pretty self aware and can keep bad things to himself most of the time. You can also just opt out of me tagging you entirely - I won't be offended, promise.
